Stills from “What the security camera saw: Multistorey Car Park, HDB, Chua Chu Kang

These stills are from a video I am making with my 7-year old brother, on top of a HDB (Housing Development Board) multi story carpark. I’ve been reading about how people have been discovering security cameras around their flats, and the mix of reactions from being concerned about increasing surveillance to feeling safe because of the possibility of catching ‘car hooligans’.

What else could the cameras see? I’ve been imagining a series of dance videos based on this idea. This is the first… hopefully there will be a series : ) This video will be part of “Close Up”, a show at Canberra Contemporary Art Space in October 2011 curated by Alexander Boynes on visual artists working with performers and performance mediums.

This shoot was really fun… my little brother Christopher Singh has a real knack for movement, and take direction superbly. He gave a lot of energy to the process so kudos to him!
